There are six charities that operate under the umbrella of the Scottish Rite Valley of Austin: the Almoner’s Fund, the Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation, the Scottish Rite Dormitory at University of Texas, the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the Texas Scottish Rite Foundation, and the Scottish Rite Children’s Theater.

Each charity supports the vision of the Scottish Rite: We will strive to be a fraternity that fulfills our Masonic obligation to care for our members.

Charity is the great virtue of mankind. The Scottish Rite practices this virtue through our Almoner’s Fund. At each meeting of the Bodies, in the annual dues statement, and through bequests and other gifts, the Almoner’s Fund is remembered.

Monies collected go directly to those who are in real distress. If you wish to donate, please contact our Almoner.

The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity. Educational services and operations are funded by donations and fundraising activities done by Scottish Rite Masons in Austin and surrounding areas. It is the mission of the Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation to support programs for reading-disabled persons such as, but not limited to, teacher training, provide educational opportunities and therapies for children, and help those who are reading disabled.

To fulfill its mission the Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation supports dyslexia services- programs for teacher training for reading disabilities, and those who help the reading disadvantaged, with a focus on dyslexia. The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation provides grant funding for training teachers consistent with the Take Flight Dyslexic MSE Therapy Processes and Psychological Evaluation and Testing to identify potentially Dyslexia Disabled Students.

The Masonic Order has been involved in quality education in Texas since the Battle of San Jacinto and the early growth of the Republic. For more than 150 years, Texas Masons have joined with others around the world to institute and support charitable programs. The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Foundation takes great pride in continuing this tradition of service by bringing quality education to those Austin area children who struggle to free themselves from the effects of dyslexia.

Scottish Rite Educational Association of Texas

Since 1922, The Scottish Rite Dormitory, adjacent to the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, have served as the home-away-from-home for thousands of daughters of Masons, as well as young women sponsored without financial obligation by Texas Blue Lodge Masons. The modern, yet gracious facilities speak well of Texas Scottish Rite dedication to higher education. The Scottish Rite Dormitory was the first dormitory on the University of Texas campus built exclusively for women.

The crown jewel of Texas Scottish Rite Philanthropies is the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Originally a “crippled children’s” hospital, the facility continues its role in orthopedic treatment and research, while meeting the challenge of other childhood and adult disabilities.

Within a unique caring environment, patients at TSRHC benefit from a world renowned medical staff and the promise of a brighter future, through the research and innovation driven by the hospital’s five centers of excellence. TSRHC is consistently recognized as one of the premier pediatric orthopedic hospitals in the world.

The Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas was established in 1955 to provide educational scholarships for worthy graduate students in the field of government service. It continued its involvement in the granting of scholarships and fellowships until 1980 when the Scottish Rite Educational and Fellowship Program of Texas was established. Since 1980, the Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas has elected to dedicate its resources toward the operation, maintenance and administration of the Lee Lockwood Scottish Rite Library and Museum.

Texas had a great Masonic foundation for the introduction of Scottish Rite in 1867. To commemorate the centennial year of Scottish Rite Masonry in Texas, the Lee Lockwood Scottish Rite Library and Museum was erected and opened in 1969. The Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas supports and administers this state wide library and museum.

Today, the sole purpose of The Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas is to administer the operations of the Lee Lockwood Scottish Rite Library and Museum. Toward this end the Library and Museum collects, catalogs, and preserves for the use and enlightenment of present and future generations the history of Freemasonry in Texas, as well as nationally and internationally. The Library and Museum was erected by the Scottish Rite Masons of Texas to provide a central location for the preservation of historical records; a museum for the display and preservation of artifacts; a library for scholarly study and research; an education facility to acquaint the general public with Freemasonry, its principles and programs; and a central meeting place for the Scottish Rite Masons of Texas.

The Scottish Rite Foundation of Texas accomplishes its purpose through contributions from Masonic organizations, Scottish Rite members, and the generosity of the general public.

Austin Scottish Rite Theater is an Austin gem – a fully operational modern theater thriving within a stunning historic landmark. SRT is Austin’s oldest theater, erected in 1871, the same year Austin became the capitol of Texas. For forty years it was a German opera house; then in 1914 it became the home of the Scottish Rite Masons who treasured the site and remain watchful tenants of the building. In 2004 the Masons created the non-profit theater organization that exists today; nestled amid the State Capitol, University of Texas, and Austin’s museum district, we at Scottish Rite are dedicated to building community through the arts. We provide quality shows for all ages, with enriching programming for children. For almost a century and a half, innumerable artists and events of all kinds have graced our venue, from the operas and circus trapeze acts that wowed crowds during the 19th Century to the live world music and multimedia children’s programming that delight Austinites today.
