Sanhedrin is defined as “Sitting together” or “Assembly” or “Council” and was founded in 1927 as the only service organization in the Valley of Austin. In the 1920s and 30s they commanded a membership of over 100. During this period, the Valley did not have a General Secretary and the Sanhedrin was responsible for everything – operations, the kitchen and the theatre.
Members of Sanhedrin work behind the scenes during reunions to provide sound, smooth state transitions, dramatic lighting and costuming the hundreds of characters who make up in the 29 degrees. These same services are provided on an ongoing basis for all Scottish Rite functions such as Stated Meetings and special Masonic events.
Sanhedrin members are an integral part in making our Austin Scottish Rite the best it can be. To join, please talk to any current member of the Sanhedrin.

The Order of the Garde Manger, or OGM was originally formed in 1947 as The Servers. The Servers mission was to provide food service during reunions and to have fun doing so. Their membership grew to over 60 during the 1950s and 60s. In 2006, The Servers were reorganized as The Order of the Garde Manger.

Garde Manger meaning “Keep to Eat” or “Keeper of the Food” was the first professional culinary position in Europe, originating in pre-revolutionary France. Having a Garde Manger in your castle or Manor house was a sign of power and prestige.

The Order of the Garde Manger provides quality food service to Austin Scottish Rite during all functions – stated meetings, reunions and other events as needed. The organization is known for enjoying fun and fellowship and welcomes all members who desire to serve the Valley in a meaningful way.

To join, please talk to any current member of the Garde Manger kitchen crew.
